Why we don't quote a single price

Well Story does not set or confirm prices, and costs in Pune vary widely between providers and over time. Any figure you see online — including on comparison sites — is an estimate. Use this guide to understand what drives the cost, then get written quotes from the providers you are actually considering.

What drives the cost of care at home

For care at home, the biggest factors are who comes (a trained attendant or caretaker usually costs less than a registered nurse), how many hours (a 12-hour day shift, a night shift, or 24-hour live-in care), and how much help is needed (companionship and routines versus bathing, lifting, or bed-bound care). Agencies may also charge a registration or replacement fee, and live-in carers usually need food and a place to sleep.

What drives the cost of a center or home

For day centers and old age homes, cost depends on the type of place (charitable, paid, assisted living, or retirement community), shared versus single room, the level of personal and nursing support, location in the city, and facilities. There is often a one-time deposit or admission fee on top of the monthly charge.

The extra costs families forget

Budget separately for medicines, doctor and specialist visits, diagnostic tests, physiotherapy, adult diapers and hygiene supplies, mobility aids such as a walker or wheelchair, home modifications such as grab bars, transport to appointments, and the occasional hospital stay. These can add a meaningful amount every month.

Building a monthly budget

List your parent's income (pension, interest, rent) and what siblings can contribute. Then add the main care cost, the extra costs above, and a buffer for emergencies. Agree openly as a family who pays for what. Revisit the budget every few months, since needs often change.

Insurance and support to check

Check whether your parent's health insurance covers home nursing or post-hospital care — many policies cover hospitalisation only. Senior citizens may also be eligible for some tax benefits on medical expenses and insurance premiums; ask a tax advisor what applies to your family. Some government and charitable schemes exist for older adults with low income; ask your local ward office or a social worker.

Comparing quotes fairly

Ask every provider for the same written breakdown in INR so you compare like with like: what is included, shift lengths, replacement arrangements, deposits, increases, and cancellation terms. The cheapest quote is not always the lowest total cost once extras are added.
